A blog, in its most straightforward sense, is a place to gather ideas, experiences, and knowledge into a lasting, searchable form that remains under the writer’s control. That is the official definition.
The unofficial definition—at least as it applies here—is simpler and more personal. This space exists so I can indulge two longstanding loves at once: writing and genealogy. It is the central spot where I collect research, family stories, and the anecdotes passed down through generations, preserving them in one place rather than scattering them across notebooks, hard drives, and half-remembered conversations.
Genealogical work often centers on timelines, documented facts, and figures—the necessary bones of any family history. Between those essential records, I have tried to add color: the texture of daily life, the texture of personality, the small human details that turn names and dates into people. In short, I aim to put a little meat on the bones of my ancestors.
Any interpretive or imaginative commentary rests on documented evidence whenever possible. Where it does not—where I step briefly into reasoned speculation or family tradition—it is clearly marked as an aside. The goal is never invention for its own sake, but a fuller, more vivid understanding of the lives that came before us.
