The eyes are the windows of your soul, or so they say. So, what does it mean if your back is to that window? In the case of this cutie, it just means she was looking for a place to sit.
Natalie on the Back Porch - May 1949 |
Getting a little help from a perfectly placed step chair in front of windowsill under the watchful eyes of mom and dad, and her own pensive yet slightly nervous stare...Natalie found the perfect perch from which to watch all the comings and goings.
How else is she going to know what is going on?

She's definitely watching whatever's happening. Cute.
ReplyDeleteFor sure! My parents took the best photos of my sister. I think it's because she was the eldest. By the time I came around the enthusiasm for photography wore a little thin. There are photos of me, but Natalie's are all adorable and the stories basically write themselves.
DeleteOh that window reminds me of the place we used to live in in Sydney...a big old terrace house. I love old buildings. We live in new ones now and I miss the sense of history.
ReplyDeleteYes, old buildings are the best. Such character and charm.
DeleteThat IS a good picture! A perfect seat for a little one.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wendy! I loved it the minute I saw it.
DeleteI wonder who she was waiting for?
ReplyDeleteI do too. Depending on the time of day, the possibilities are endless.
DeleteVery cute but she does look a little anxious. Perhaps it was the first time she’d been placed there.
ReplyDeleteCould be Pauleen. Looking at it from an adult's eye, it doesn't look very high. But when you're only 2-1/2' tall...it probably seemed super high off the ground.
DeleteThis would be the perfect blog post to add to yesterday's Sepia Saturday challenge. It's OK to be a day late, so come join us at https://sepiasaturday.blogspot.com/2020/06/sepia-saturday-523-6-june-2020.html
ReplyDeleteDone!
DeleteA perfect post with a cute little girl. I think you're right about the birth order having something to do with the number of pictures you'll find in photo albums of siblings. I was the eldest child in my family, and there are many more single pictures of me than there are of my brother and younger sisters. Once there was more than one child, the single photos became duo photos. Then triple and quadruple photos with a rare single here and there of subsequent offspring. Just the way it is - or as we say these days "It is what it is." :)
ReplyDeleteYes. As long as the love was there...I forgive the missing photo ops.
DeleteJust one picture can tell a story. To begin I thought Natalie was perched rather precariously on the window sill, until I scrolled down slightly and saw the chair. I knew of a family of four children where the youngest was so disappointed to realise how few photographs existed of him as a baby, compared with his older siblings.
ReplyDeleteI admit that Natalie had the lion's share of candid shots then I did for sure, but there are photos of me, too. Her photos just seem much more interesting to me.
DeleteI love this photo. Natalie came up with a solution that allowed her to pose and survey the world. But she does look a bit insecure on her perch and was probably happy to hop down once this photo was taken.
ReplyDeleteKnowing Natalie, she was undoubtedly relieved to get down from that ledge. LOL
DeleteThis photo reminded me of myself wAiting at the window for my Dad to come home from work
